It’s in all of us

You’ve got it, you really have!

If I had a penny for every time someone told me that they were rubbish in front of camera I would be a very rich man with a toupee, chest wig and personalised number plate “Just Jez 1”.

How come? You’re all fabulous! Well, certainly the people I’ve had the privilege to direct and guide.

It’s completely understandable. Performing to camera is something a lot of us are clearly afraid of. It’s bad enough for people who are petrified of a live audience. They’ve even got a name for it – glossophobia.

Facing the camera is often worse. There’s not even an audience to play off!  And how the heck are you ever going to kill it, to tell your story with impact, conviction, charisma and je ne sais quoi?

There’s an opportunity here though. There’s never been a better time for those who are their key brand representatives to impress the world. By turning up, facing the camera and laying it on the line.

How do you deliver your X-Factor?

First step – have another look at those gurus you love, admire and respect so much. The Gary Vaynerchucks, Marie Forleos, and Simon Sineks. This time, put your critical hat on. Ignore the numbers of visits, likes and accolades. Imagine you’re the little boy watching the Emperor. What do you actually see? Do you see someone well-presented? Someone with a gift of the gab? A mighty intellectual? Or is it something more straightforward? Something simpler.

Could it be confidence? Or just the love of what they do?

I’m sure they’ve done their 10,000 hours. So have you, most likely. And I’ll warrant most likely that the next time you face the camera, you deliver your story with the same authority, confidence, love and enthusiasm that your gurus do. And in amongst all that that, right there, is your X-Factor.

Give it a go.
