Telling your story starts with once upon a time…

A great structure for telling your story

Everyone loves a story, particularly in business

Stories are wonderful and they’re essential if you want to get your message across in the workplace.

But what if you want to tell or pitch one and your message doesn’t get through? Worse still, what if you don’t even know where to start?

Story scaffolding

Here’s a method for dealing with that. It’s what I call the StoryPitcher and it’s taken from someone called Emma Coats who developed its structure, inspired by her time at Pixar.

Watch then take the challenge. Tell a story of the first hour of your day, according to this structure

  • Once upon a time…
  • Every day…
  • One day…
  • Because of that…
  • Because of that…
  • Until finally.

And if you’re feeling bold, add “From then on…” to the end.
