Improve your vocal variety: Read aloud

Improve your public speaking by reading aloud

Here’s a tip for improving vocal variety when speaking in public, whether that’s virtual or live.

Try reading a book. Aloud. Pick 3 pages and record yourself reciting the text to your phone and then listen back.

It’s not just good practice in terms of getting the pacing, pausing and intonation right. It can be very enlightening listening to your own interpretation of someone else’s words, particularly if they mean something special to you.

Pick up a spare moment

So pick up your favourite book of the moment – a self-help book, a novel or biography, for example – and read it aloud.

And by all means do send me your recording when you’ll done and I’ll assess it for you for free.
